Position Overview
A Heavy Off-Road Diesel Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty off-road vehicles and machinery such as construction equipment, bulldozers, and cranes. The role includes both routine preventative maintenance and complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical repairs using specialized tools and diagnostic software. Mechanics must also maintain detailed service records and ensure all work meets safety and performance standards.
Essential Duties

Perform routine and preventative maintenance, including inspections, oil changes, lubrication, fluid checks, and tire rotations

Diagnose issues using diagnostic tools, test equipment, and software for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems

Repair or replace worn or malfunctioning components such as pistons, injectors, transmissions, and brakes

Maintain and repair major systems including engines, cooling systems, exhaust systems, and electrical systems

Conduct safety and emissions inspections to ensure compliance

Test-drive or operate repaired equipment to verify correct performance and make necessary adjustments
Skills and Qualifications

Strong mechanical and technical expertise in diesel engines and heavy equipment

Proficiency with diagnostic tools, test equipment, and computer-based troubleshooting

Physical strength and manual dexterity for demanding mechanical tasks

Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities

High attention to detail for accurate repairs and system checks

Effective communication skills for discussing repairs with supervisors or customers

Valid driver’s license for operating and test-driving vehicles
