New studies from Barrick confirm what many in mining circles have already anticipated: the Fourmile project in Nevada is shaping up to be one of this century’s most significant gold finds. The latest Preliminary Economic Assessment (PEA) highlights its rare combination of grade, scale, and exploration upside.

Barrick’s CEO Mark Bristow called Fourmile a “multi-generational project,” noting expectations to double the resource by year-end and define high-grade extensions beyond current estimates. The updated data suggest potential for 600,000–750,000 ounces of annual production at low mining rates, making Fourmile a strong contender among the world’s leading gold projects.

What sets Fourmile apart is not just its size, but its metallurgical flexibility: unlike some nearby deposits, a large portion of its ore is expected to be single refractory, meaning it can be processed more readily and cost-effectively. Its location—adjacent to existing processing facilities in the Carlin-Cortez district—adds strategic value, potentially reducing capital needs and accelerating production ramp-up.

Barrick plans to scale its drilling operations significantly, ramping up from 16 surface rigs to over 20 and committing to hundreds of kilometers in surface and underground drilling through 2028. They’re also advancing permitting work for the Bullion Hill decline, with the goal of connecting to Fourmile’s deeper zones.

For those in the mining and staffing sectors, Fourmile’s prospects are especially promising. As this project develops, the demand for experienced professionals—in geology, engineering, operations, safety, and more—will grow. It’s a signal that high-potential projects can still emerge, even in mature mining districts.
